Good Study Habbits

Studying is something that most people put off until the last minute, and this is one of the biggest mistakes that the person could be making. They are going to find that studying is something that takes time in order to learn that information and to actually keep it locked in the brain. There are those that simply look at their notes a few minutes before a big exam and find that they are able to pass the exam, but did they really learn anything? Chances are, as soon as they no longer need the information, they are going to dismiss it from their brain. So just how can the person make sure that their study habits are effective and are getting the most out of their studying sessions?

First things first, study as soon as the class is over. Why is this important? During the class your brain is tuned in and is absorbing this information. However, to make it stick you need to look over that same information and apply it in your brain. Studies have shown that a person that is able to spend one hour after class each day looking over their notes and studying what they have learned makes more progress than a person that spends five or six hour days later studying over the same material.

Remember that you cannot expect yourself to sit still for five hours straight and study. This is not going to be something that anyone can do, even if they do not have attention problems. The brain will simply shut off and the person will find themselves starting to daydream in order to get a break. Most people recommend that the person only spend an hour or two studying the material that they are getting and then they should take a few breaks every twenty minutes or so. Switch subjects after that hour if you have a lot of studying to do in order to minimize the amount of wasted time.

Time is something that most people are having a hard time accounting for when it comes to studying. However, they should be certain that they set aside time to do this, otherwise they are simply going to fall behind and begin to procrastinate, which is not going to help their ability to remember what they are studying at all.

Another tip to keep in mind to make your studying time more effective is that you are going to want to eliminate the need to get up and get something. This means, having everything that you will need to study right in front of you. Things such as pencils to take notes with, notebooks, the text and anything else that you can think of. The less time that you have to get something, the more time that you can completely devote to studying.

Most people see studying as something that they need to do at some point in time, but they can lessen the time that they spend in the books, if they simply allow for the time that they are studying to be something that is effective.
